about

An Afro-Dionysian Suite in 3 movements inspired by the play “The Frogs” written by the Ancient Greek playwright Aristophanes.

1st Movement:
Athens, Greece 405 B.C.
DIONYSUS decides to bring the greatest playwright back from the dead.
(The drum beats to an evocative 5/8 rhythm, while the cello carries the melody)
2nd Movement:
CHARON ferries him across the lake where FROGS scream!
(The melody changes slightly in a 7/8 rhythm. Vre ke ke kex the frogs croak!)
3rd Movement:
Finally, he arrives to HADES, the underworld.
(No melody there, only terrifying sounds, screaming strings and polyrhythms)

P.S. Ignoring Aristophanes, Dionysus ultimately decides to stay in HELL
